A Quiet Moment In November

This poem easily could have been titled “A Quiet Moment On Thanksgiving Day.” After all the cooking and eating was done, I felt the desire to take advantage of the gorgeous day my Lord had given, lay on my deck beneath my big Oak Tree, and spend a little time thanking my Lord for His bounty.

I used the word November in the title for reasons that will become obvious, for as I lay there in prayer and contemplation of all the things God had done for me–November attacked all of my senses!

Did you find a similar quiet moment this November?

A Quiet Moment In November

November had come bringing it’s chill to the morning air.
A welcomed feeling I thought as I lay here in quiet prayer.
As I sought you Father, I began my November’s fade.
Content to seek You I was, ’till November began it’s own warfare.

A gentle breeze made the melodious chimes to begin to sing.
They were moved by Spirit winds from the Author of all things.
The birds then joined in singing of Your beauty and Your splendor.
With my eyes heavy weighing, I found the peace You came to bring.

My struggle would have to wait to watch more of my sin die.
My mind was fading to even remember, oh why just why.
I finally gave up my struggle to give you my thanksgiving.
I just had to close my eyes to becoming a little more wise.

My will lost Your will to the slumber in my brain.
Maybe too much peace be still made me unable to stay awake.
Let me just rest in this quietness, I remember saying at last.
Let me just rest a bit, Lord before eternity’s fight I again uptake.

From November’s beauty, my eye’s closed ‘neath that big Oak Tree.
The attack of November on all my senses, ended all my pleas.
Your Spirit winds through the trees drove away my spirit of fear.
I drifted away dreaming many dreams of Your November’s cheer.

In this quiet moment, I could not resist my brief slumber.
All my wars ceased as I forgot them to remember.
You offered me come enter into Your peace and rest.
Thank You, Lord for the gift of this quiet moment in November!
