Does Math Hold the Answer to Finding Mr./Mrs. Right?

Finding “Mr. or Mrs. Right” is a task that is less than easy. Some people insist on allowing destiny to take its course, while others will try every method possible to find the perfect partner. Some people may pick their suitor based on their ability to provide financial or emotional security, or even based on a psychic reading! Some other factors that sway the decision making process include—but are not limited to—religion, appearance, and education. Some individuals may even choose to play the odds by doing eenie-meenie-minie-mo! But what’s even more shocking, is using “mathematics” to find your soulmate.

Using a mathematical probability in the selection of your husband or wife is a pretty big deal. However, there are beliefs that a simple mathematical rule is able to tell you how long you should search for Mr. / Mrs. Right, and when to stop and settle down with whomever you’ve got. The theory deduces that suitors will come and go, but we don’t ever get to compare them all at once to weigh the odds and make comparisons. Hence, to pick the best one is a gamble. That’s why they’ve come up with a mathematical solution to increase our odds of winning the best partner.

What is your reaction so far? Weird? Interesting? Maybe intriguing… probably?

Well, there’s an article on The Washington PostThe Washington Post website that supports this theory. According to the article, “To have the highest chance of picking the very best suitor, you should date and reject the first 37 percent of your total group of lifetime suitors. Then you follow a simple rule: You pick the next person who is better than anyone you’ve ever dated before.”

This theory has a drawback, however. You would have to know the total number of suitors you want or could potentially have. Then you’d have to decide who the meaningful suitors are different from the runner ups. As a result, a lot of guess-work is involved. Is all this really ideal? Even though this method is mathematical, it’s not as simple as one plus one. There is still no guarantee, especially with so much guessing, that the person you choose will be “The one.”

Remember, Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” If you stay within God’s divine plan for your life, then you can never go wrong in finding your soulmate. God loves us, and wants the best for us. So, you can choose to trust psychic, religion, or mathematics… or you can consult and wait on God only.
