Knowing God Completely

They were never on the earth at the same time, but they belonged to the same family and they mirrored one another. One was a boy during the Great Depression, living on a farm with no electricity or indoor plumbing, the other was born into a modern twenty-first century world.

Perhaps it was the mischievous looks, the charming little boy smiles, the chunky  legs that ran tirelessly, or the way  both scratched the top of their right ear when lost in thought. Even their birthdays, though separated by 84 years, were only two days apart on the calendar. The elder was the great-grandfather to the younger , and the little one brought joy to those who knew them both—a gentle reminder of a lost loved one. Yet in all the familiarity between the two, no stranger could make a  comparison.  The similarities were observed only by  those with intimate knowledge of both.

Knowing God completely is also reserved for those who belong to His family through their trust in Christ as Savior. They have God’s promise that they will know Him as He knows them… First Corinthians 13:12 describes it as seeing dimly in a mirror, looking at a blur of reflection or a riddle, until the time of perfection—the day we see our Creator face-to-face.

Like looking at an old photograph of a long past relative and seeing a hint of familiarity in a smile, the tilt of a head, or the way they positioned their hands, we see God in part: through His written Word and our walk of faith with Him.  But in the end  we will see Him clearly.  What a day that will be for the believer!
