Take Heart: God Knows Where the Pieces Go

Jigsaw puzzles had their beginnings in 18th century Europe as pieces of wooden maps made by mapmakers of the time. But by 1900, American adults were big fans of the puzzle as a relaxing pastime, although the cost of about $5 per puzzle was steep at a time when the average worker made a mere $50 per month.  The rich, however, were faithful purchasers of puzzles for their elaborate weekend parties. When the Great Depression occurred, the puzzle became more readily available to the masses through rentals offered at libraries and corner drugstores. They were a welcome respite from the worries of the day, an enjoyable challenge to the mind. And even in our electronic world of today,  putting together the scattered pieces of a puzzle is still a favorite activity of both young and old.

What is less amusing are the times when  life itself  feels like an unfinished puzzle of scattered things…hopes, dreams, and expectations that seem as though they can never be put together into the beautiful picture we long for. But God knows where the pieces go…

God, your God, will restore everything you lost; He’ll have compassion on you; He’ll come back and pick up the pieces from all the places where you were scattered. Deuteronomy 30:3

Are you experiencing a time of uncertainty? Does your life resemble scattered puzzle pieces waiting to be put together again?  Take heart—God knows where the pieces go. Believe His promise to pick up those pieces and bring them together into a beautiful, new picture.
