Doubting and questioning God

Questioning God

Satan is the biggest doubt-planter there has ever been.  And he started with Eve.  “Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (Genesis 3:1).  Eve was immediately on the defensive, saying they may eat of every tree except the tree in the midst of the garden.  We can’t eat of it (and she adds to the command) or even touch it.

This dialog is the only person-to-person conversation from Satan except for his direct encounter with Jesus in the gospels.  Jesus always answered Satan with the Word of God.  See Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-13.   Later, in John 8:44, Jesus said this about him: “He was a murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.  When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar and the father of it.”

Satan constantly questions God’s Word – and he wants you to do the same.  So, he instills doubt in your mind to make you question God.

Attacks on Creation: Did God actually create the earth, the universe, and everything that exists?  If He didn’t, then John 1:3, 10, Colossians 1:16-17 and Hebrews 11:3 are in error.

Did He create it in six literal 24-hour days?  If not, then Moses was mistaken in Exodus 20:8-11.

Did he establish the home with the historical persons Adam and Eve?  If not, then Jesus was wrong in Mark 10:6-8.

Was it an actual, historical event that happened when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden – and all of us inherited the sin nature?  If not, then Paul wasted his words in Romans 6.

Did the universal, worldwide flood truly occur?  If not, Jesus was mistaken in Luke 17:26-27.

If the evolutionists and atheists can destroy the history in Genesis, they destroy everything else in the Bible.  Genesis 1 – 11 are foundational to our faith.  And in case you didn’t know, there are quite a few Creationist organizations with highly qualified, credible scientists with degrees from secular universities.  They have produced and distributed many scientific books, articles, and essays, providing ample evidence of the integrity of the creation story and the entire book of Genesis.

Any attack on the Biblical account of Creation ties right in with and is part of the  – – –

Attacks on the Authority of God’s Word: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation.  For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”  (2 Peter 1: 1:19-21)

“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” (Psalm 119:89)

“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Matthew 5:18).

Paul warned, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times will come.” Religious people will be “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” They will be “ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” “Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” Then comes the instruction, “Continue thou in the things which thou hast learned:” Then Paul proceeds to refer Timothy to the inspired Scripture.   (2 Timothy 3:1, 5, 7, 13, 14-17)

It is no wonder that in Jude 3, Jude felt compelled to urge his readers to “earnestly contend for the faith.’

The attacks against the Word of God today are endless and unrelenting.  Will you stand?

Attacks on moral standards

Because of the immorality of our times, it has become imperative for liberals who don’t believe the Bible to redefine the Bible’s terms.

Male and female created he them.” (Genesis 1:27) becomes male and female and other variations.

Homosexualism: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is abomination.” (Leviticus 20:13) becomes “that doesn’t mean homosexualism.” By the way, adjusting your beliefs to accommodate homosexualism is not keeping up with modern times.  Homosexualism has been with humanity since very early history.  (Genesis 19)

Divorce: “For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?  Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh.  What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.  (Matthew 19:5,6)  Divorce becomes a minor matter. to the one who rejects the Word.  “If our marriage doesn’t work, we’ll divorce and find another partner.  The children don’t matter.”

The “it doesn’t matter, it happens all the time, everybody’s doing it” sins:  Adultery.  Sex before marriage: Child born out of wedlock, Living together before marriage.  Don’t concern yourself about the child victims of these sins.  Don’t agonize about the young, single, unwed mothers who are left to raise the children by themselves because the man left her to pursue further conquests.  Don’t worry about the guilt plaguing the heart and mind for a long time.  Don’t fret about the shattered emotional lives of adults who do these things.  Block out from your mind the resentment and bitterness that will eat away at your soul for many years to come.  If it feels good, do it.  Consequences don’t matter.

But they do matter – and the sinner will experience those sad consequences.

And so, on and on it goes down the list of commandments: No other gods before me; no images; taking the name of the Lord in vain; murder, stealing, lying, coveting.  Just reinterpret and revise your beliefs until your conscience doesn’t bother you anymore.

When you begin to doubt, disregard, ignore, and reinterpret the Word of God to your liking, it is a steady downward path spiritually, morally, physically, and socially.  When you deny the authority of God and His Word, you are placing your opinions above God’s Word.

“Be not deceived.  God is not mocked:  for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)

Does Satan have you where he wants you –  Accepting the words of finite, modern scholars as a more substantial authority than the infinite God himself?

Did you know that God designed the laws of morality and accountability to give you a peaceful, abundant, joyful life?  Did you know that sin has enslaved you?  (John 8:34).  God’s Word is not given to bind you but rather to free you from the law of sin and death.  (Romans 8:2).

Christian, determine right now to let the Word of God be the authority in your life.

Sinner, please know that God loves you and gave His Son to suffer the awful death of the cross to pay for your sins.  Today, He wants to save you from sin and its misery, from hell, and eternal separation from God.  Will you trust Him as your Savior today?
