Does God Reveal Himself?

Some have asked, “Why doesn’t God reveal Himself more obviously in everyday life?”

But God does reveal Himself, and He has revealed Himself.

God communicates to believers and unbelievers in an observable and understandable way.

First, He reveals Himself through Creation.

The most obvious and easily observable way is in creation. And this can be seen by everyone. Romans 1:20 “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”

Consider these examples from creation:

  •         The immensity: the sky with its innumerable stars and other heavenly bodies.
  •           The beauty:  roses with their various shades of white, yellow, pink, dark crimson, and maroon.
  •           The complexity: the human brain – more advanced in design and capability than the most advanced computer or artificial intelligence.
  •           The Variety: mountains, plains, rivers, streams, oceans, the innumerable variety of animals, birds, fish, and of humans,
  •           The Functionality: the sun, moon, stars, and Earth all work together harmoniously to sustain life on Earth.

If you are pre-disposed to believe there is no God, you will not see God anywhere. If you genuinely believe, you will see God everywhere.

The evolutionist says he cannot believe in Biblical Creation because it is unprovable. But evolution is also unprovable. Scientists cannot duplicate evolutionary events, and there are no witnesses. God is the only one who is an eyewitness to the creation, and He is the Creator.

The Christian accepts the truth of creation by faith. “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Hebrews 11:3).

The evolutionist accepts the theory of evolution by faith. It is not scientifically provable. The evolutionist also must decide which theory of evolution he will believe. And they are theories!

The psalmist declared, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth his handiwork” (Psalm 19:1). In Psalm 8:3-4 David says, “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars which thou hast ordained; what is man that thou are mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him.”

When a person looks around at the heavens above, the Earth’s geological features, and the complexity of animal, plant, bird, fish, and human life, Romans 1:20 is demonstrated. “His eternal power and Godhead is seen. Therefore they (all humanity) are without excuse:”

Second, He Reveals Himself Through His Word. “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). Jesus speaking in John 5:39, said, “Search the scriptures: for in them  ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”

Through the Word, here’s how you can access the truth about God:

In all reality, Jesus reveals God.   John 1:18 states, “No man hath seen God at any time: the only begotten Sons, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared (made known) him.” In John 14:9, Jesus answered Philip, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father (God).”

The first step is to know Christ as Savior. In John 1:14,” The Word (Jesus Christ – see context) became flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:18 states, “No man hath seen God at any time: the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.” Christ reveals God.

Our salvation depends on our personal relationship with Christ. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” “He that believeth on him is not condemned” (John 3:16, 18).

The person that believes faces up to the sin question – all of us are sinners. “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” (John 3:19). But God forgives when we come to Him with a repentant heart and trust Him. See Romans 10:9,10,13.

He reveals Himself in a unique way to believers.

Are you a “fire escape” Christian? You just trusted Christ so you could escape hellfire? Or do you sincerely want Christ in your life?

If you genuinely want to know Christ and see him revealed to you, you must meet His conditions for a close walk with Him.

John 14:21 “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest (show) myself to him.”

God is looking for those Christians who genuinely want to know Him.  So, in this verse, there are the conditions of knowing and keeping His commandments. Are you learning His commandments by daily studying His Word? Are you keeping his commandments? You will only come to know those commandments as you study His Word.

James 4:8, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” “Delight thyself also in the Lord, and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Psalm 37:4. Delighting yourself in the Lord means finding your foremost joy in the Lord. You are learning to love what God loves and are concerned about the same things that burden God’s heart. When you do this, your desires and God’s desires will align, and you will receive the desires of your heart.  And you will see God revealed in your life.
