The Name of Jesus

Proverbs tells us that the Lord’s name is a strong tower and the righteous run into it and are safe.   Imagine Jesus’ name being so powerful that we can run into it and be safe from the world, our enemies and the storms of life.  Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that the name of Jesus is Lord. Jesus said to pray in His name whenever we make a request of the Father.  Why did Jesus tell us this?

His name has been exalted to the right hand of God and his name is exalted above every name. God has given His name all power and authority over the hosts of darkness and all reign over creation and the universe. Practically speaking, when we use the name of Jesus in prayer, God sees Jesus our high priest as the one praying in intercession on our behalf. There is such power in His name that God will grant us any request that is in accordance with His will as we read in I John5:14 “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us.”  Anything we ask in Jesus name God will grant if it is in his will. His will is quite generous as expressed in the promises of his word.

Listen to some of the titles given to the exalted name of the risen Lord: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. These names tell us that Jesus is our Father, God and Wonderful counselor. His name signifies all the authority of God the Father and his name is on an equal plane with the Father’s name.  Most Importantly to the future of one’s eternity is the name of Jesus is the only name under heaven that man can call upon and be saved.  Jesus’s name has so much authority it can authorize a lost soul to be born again and translated from the Kingdom of darkness into the Father’s Kingdom of light changing the eternal destiny of a person; the name of Jesus has all power and authority.
