“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22:23 (ESV)
I am writing today’s devotional from the beach. I have spent some time watching the ocean, and last evening I saw it change from peaceful, calm waves to angry violent waves. Everything turned from sun to clouds, the wind became very strong, and we received some misting and sprinkles. Yet the threatened storm did not ever appear.
This reminds me of how God is merciful every day. We may go to sleep at night with worries, and fears, and perhaps even total despair, yet when we awaken we often see things in a different light. A light of hope is ever before us, but sometimes it is very difficult to see through the haze of anxiety and fear to see it right there in front of us.
This morning, I just looked out the window. The sky is still cloudy, but there are glimpses of bright light through those clouds. The general light outside is bright. Therefore, I can see hope for a better day today. New beginnings have been set before me.
“Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6: 25-26
Jesus knows we will have our moments. Moments of fear and anxiety. Moments of great heartache and overwhelming depression. Moments of hopelessness. Yet He promises we will have greater moments. Moments of peace and plenty. Moments of grace and glory. Moments of excitement for the future. It is because of those mercies He shows us every morning that we can trust and believe when He tells us we are loved so very much, and cared for.
Jesus is Our Hope. He proves it to us every single day. When we go to bed at night tired and worn from our battles in this world, we wake up renewed and ready to face a new day, a day of new beginnings. He promises this. If we will turn our faces to Him, if we will refocus our eyes on His face when we have worries and fears, He will be faithful to deliver His peace, and to put the promise of new beginnings in our hands every single day of our lives.
I look out the window, and I see the sun shines brighter now. It will indeed be a glorious day, a day of new beginnings!
