The first person in the world has received an implant from Neuralink, which is a brain-computer interface, fully implantable and invisible, designed to let a person control a computer or mobile device from any location. It is the size of a coin inserted in the skull, with microscopic wires able to read neuron activity and send a wireless signal to a receiving unit, and control external devices simply by thinking. Elon Musk has defined his goals for Neuralink as wanting to augment perfectly healthy people with brain chips so the human race can keep up with artificial intelligence.
In addition to all of the above, this new technology will eventually allow humans to upload themselves into new units if their biological selves die, essentially achieving immortality! The goal is a post-human future by creating human-machine hybrids superior to natural or non-enhanced humans.
Writer John Daniel Davidson comments, “In reality, what Musk and Neuralink are doing amounts to building a second Tower of Babel or a revisiting of the serpent’s offer in the Garden of Eden: You will not surely die, you will be as gods. They want godlike intelligence and, ultimately, eternal life-and they are willing to tinker with the human body and mind, deconstruct and reconstitute it, even if that’s what it takes.” Musk’s Neuralink Heralds The Beginning Of A Dystopian Future (thefederalist.com)
So much for the godless schemes of humanity to become like God and have eternal life. There is no satisfaction in the way God created males and females in his image, and the mindset to improve upon what he has created. There is another alternative to eternal life as recorded in John 3:16. “For God so loved that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him shall nor perish but have everlasting life.”
There is coming a time, also, when those who have put their faith in Jesus as their Savior, will have glorified bodies in heaven, “who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him to subject all things to himself” (Phil 3:31). Talk about enhancing the body!
So, what is Jesus’s glorified body like? In the transfiguration told in Matthew 17:1-2, Jesus revealed his glorified body to some of his disciples. It reads, “…he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.” After the resurrection when Jesus walked on the earth, he would “appear” in a room without entering through a door (John 20:19 and 26). On other occasions Jesus appeared in different forms to several people, as recorded in Mark 16:9-12. Now that will really be a post-human future!
Now I don’t know about you, but I would much rather have a glorified body like Jesus than a body linked to a computer! Until that happens, instead of nueralinking our brain, let’s be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:1-2), through his inspired Word and the “implanted” Holy Spirit in our lives. Let’s all “link” our lives to God. Then we will have the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and can “have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16).
