10 Reasons To Be Thankful This Christmas

You’re alive to read this article!
There are many who started this year with big plans and resolutions, but never get to actualize these goals because they’re now covered in a bed of dirt. Being privilege to be numbered amongst the living is reason enough for being thankful.

You have a family
No matter how jacked-up and dysfunctional they are, they’re yours. Even if all you have is just a mother, father, sister, or uncle, that individual is God’s gracious gift to you. Cherish and appreciate your blood relatives. Celebrate this holiday in their presence.

There’s food on your table
It really doesn’t matter what kind of food it is. You may not be able to keep up with the Jones’ cuisine, but this Christmas season, you’re not going to bed hungry either. Many have to survive on scraps all year round.

There’s a roof over your head
Whether it’s a house, a condo, an apartment–or even a homeless shelter, the good news still remains… You’re protected from the harsh winter cold. God has blessed you with somewhere to lay your head and be warm.

Christmas carols still exist
Oh the joy of hearing and singing along with classical Christmas carols. Silent Night, Frosty the Snowman, Noel, Jingle Bells… There’s enough to keep adding to the list for hours. Carols have a way of contagiously spreading joyful hearts.

Church doors are still open
It’s a blessing to be granted the free will of assembling under one roof to recognize and worship our Savior. There are many who have to hide and attend church, and an even more who doesn’t get to go any at all.

It’s a pretty season
Halloween is basically black and orange. Colorful, would definitely be the wrong description for that holiday. Thanksgiving decor is alright, and Easter’s color scheme is OK. But the Christmas season effortlessly takes the trophy for “The Best Dressed Holiday.” The decorative lights, bright ornaments, red and white candy-canes, and gold bells, all collaborate to bring our eyes joy.

Salvation is still free
Things and time continues to rapidly change. Products and services are getting increasingly costly. Yet, one thing remains constant; you will never have to pay for salvation. How can you be unappreciative this Christmas knowing Christ made it possible for you to have eternal life?

You’re blessed to be a blessing
You don’t have to be rich in order to give. Count your many blessings, no matter how great or small, and your grand total should stimulate you to pay it forward. Don’t be sad because you don’t have everything you want, God made it so you have everything you need. The fastest way to make your heart smile, is to help someone.

It’s Jesus’ Birthday!
The greatest king who ever lived–and is still living, picked the best season to grace this world with His presence…or is it the other way around? It’s the “bestest” season because of Christ’s manger birth. “For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:11-12) His birth ultimately secured our deliverance from sin. “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21) With this hope, it’ll be almost inhumane not to be thankful this Christmas.
