Jesus Christ Alone

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are justified through the death of Christ on the cross. Our faith in Him, in that substitutionary death, is what saves you and be and everyone who believes in Christ.

No works we do can merit us being saved.

Our good works are a result of being saved.

We didn’t do anything to be justified.

Paul didn’t do anything to be justified.

Christ did that work once and for all who believe.

Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

We are not saved by good works but to good works.

The only reason those works can be called good is because we do them for Christ’s sake. We do them to the glory of God .

Only God is good.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Boasting in what we ourselves do is prideful and sinful. If the good works we do are just to get lines follows or praise from other people then they are done in vain and are worthless. In God’s eye vanity is sin. In our eyes vanity should be looked on as sin. But in our lost and dying world it’s looked at as it’s own God. It is idolatry.

We’re told to put off our old self and to take up our cross daily. These things are meant to drive us from our idols and the vain self pleasing world. A godly man will be one who struggles with this till Jesus comes back. We didn’t do anything to earn our justification and we can’t do what we need to do for our glorification. Only Jesus.

  2. God called us to be fishers of men not fishing for complaints. I don’t feel the need to respond to articles on this site unless I believe that the Lord is giving me the words to say.
I say what comes to mind not that I an an expert on matters but what I understand which means that no one has to agree with my response.
I feel this excitement to weigh in on subjects that have specifically caught my attention and your article is one that we need to take to heart. All praise is to be His alone. Only He has that worthiness. Apart from Him we are nothing more than flawed beings trying to impress other flawed beings.
