True Hope Is Found In God Alone

In a recent speech I heard a person use the words,“It’s hard to hope.” This is, sadly, well expressed. Are you finding it hard to have hope? Probably many people are today as the culture has wars, corruption, evil, and many other things that seem hopeless, and in some ways wonder if humanity is headed in a positive direction. The definition of hope is an expectation and desire for something positive to happen or a good end result.

One of the saddest verses in the entire Bible has the phrase, “without hope and without God in the world” (Ephesians 2:12). There is no lasting hope in wealth, material things, or even in religion. Hope is connected with having a purpose for living. If there is no purpose or things are not headed in a positive direction it is, indeed, hard to have hope. However, there is a hope that is not dependent upon cultural or political outcomes.

So, what is the true source of hope? For Christians, this is the season of lent. This is the time leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus. True hope is found in him. 1 Peter 1:3 says there is “living hope through the Resurrection.”  It comes through a personal relationship with God by inviting Jesus Christ to be your personal savior. Then there will be hope not only in this life, but a confident assurance and expectation of life in the next, in heaven in God’s presence.

No matter how difficult things become on the personal level or on a social or political scale, you can have the eternal hope based on the resurrection. Psalm 62:5-6 says, “For God alone, Oh my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress. I shall not be shaken.”

I pray that if you have not done so, place your hope in Jesus during this season of lent. He died for your sins and rose from the grave. You can have a relationship with the living God. May this Easter be a time of great celebration for you as you realize true and living hope.
