Jesus Wants to Carry Your Burden

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Why does the church of Jesus Christ take this invitation in Matthew 11 so lightly? We just need to look around and we can see that there are many defeated Christians walking around carrying burdens the Lord does not want them to carry. Their faces are long with weariness from fighting and losing to Satan and life’s struggles. They try to fight supernatural battles in their natural human strength. God did not create us to fight the battles on our own. He has given us the greatest supernatural weapons ever. They are Jesus Christ, His Word and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is offering us supernatural, anointed help in these verses in Matthew. What a gracious God who is freely offering us His help to carry all the burdens of life for us. Another benefit: His help free, there is no charge! The only requirement (and it is wrapped in grace) is that we cast our burdens upon Him and leave them with Him by faith. Jesus is so willing to help us because He, like us, lived a human life and faced all the trials, joys and persecutions we face daily in life. He carried His burdens to the Father and left them there. He is more than qualified to help us on a daily basis.

Thank God! Jesus does not charge us for His help. His offer is rooted solely in His love and supernatural care for us. Jesus was passionate about His offer to help. He knows man’s heart and that we try to carry the load ourselves when He is standing right there, more than willing to carry the burden for us. We just need to trust Him. Besides, He will give us rest physically, emotionally and spiritually if we will heed the call to cast our cares upon Him.

I remember seeing a picture on Facebook of a little boy carrying a load (it must have been twice his size and weight) up a steep and rocky road. Jesus is helplessly standing off to the side saying, “Please let Me help you.”

You see, the Lord cannot do a thing for us if we will not cast our burdens upon Him. He will not forcibly take our burdens off us. We must be willing to freely cast our burdens to Him. How many times have we gone to the Lord in prayer asking Him to give us peace and take our burdens off our shoulders? But in the next breath we take the burdens back to try and find solutions to our problems in our own strength?

It grieves the Lord’s heart that we do not trust Him with our innermost hurts and worries. Look at it from another angle: How does a parent feel when their child will not let them help with a problem the child is incapable of solving himself? Jesus feels the same way when we will not let Him carry our burdens. Give them to Him today! He is waiting with open arms.

What burden do you need to lay at Jesus’ feet?
