Youth With A Mission Of Discipleship

In June 1956 God gave a literal vision to a 20 year old young man by the name of Loren Cunningham. Laying on his bed he saw a mental moving map of the world with all of the continents. He saw “waves” of young people going into all nations, preaching the good news of the gospel. He, along with his wife, Darlene, founded Youth With A Mission in 1960 with the unique purpose of training young adults in discipleship and sending them into the world for evangelism. –Youth With A Mission

The ministry purchased a hotel in Kona on the big island of Hawaii and turned it into a training center for discipleship, called Pacific and Asia Christian University. The name was changed to University of the Nations in 1989. My sister is currently on that campus training for discipleship and living and worshiping with 500 young and older people from countries and cultures from around the world. How exciting is that! From there they will all go to countries yet undisclosed, using their unique abilities and talents to share the love of God.

It takes faith to step out of one’s comfort zone into uncharted territory. God has new and exciting spiritual adventures for those who do. Most Christians are content and complacent just going through the normal activities of life, with no thought of what God could have in mind for them. You may think that you are not qualified or have nothing to give to God for him to use! However, if he puts it in your mind to do something or go somewhere, God will provide the resources. As Christians, we should always be asking the question, “Am I experiencing God‘s best for my life?” At my age of 76 I am asking that same question.

These young people in their teens and 20’s and some older adults like my sister are examples of people who are stepping out in faith and obedience. They are leaving their families to go to a country yet unknown. This reminds me of the verse in Genesis 12:1 when God told Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father‘s house to the land that I will show you.” They may not have the blessing of Abram, but they will be a blessing to many nations using their gifts and talents.

If you desire to be trained for discipleship as a young person and want to have the thrill of interacting with international people from countries and cultures consider applying to YWAM. You will see a real purpose for your life.

Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And I am with you always to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:29-20).
