Have You Talked to the Devil Lately?

The devil tries to use God’s Word against us, and he knows his stuff! He’s been given many names in the bible: “murderer” and “father of lies” (John 8),”dragon” and” serpent” (Revelation 4),” tempter” (Matthew 4), “angel of the abyss” (Revelation 9)…we cannot take him on in our own strength.  But when he comes to accuse, tempt, cause fear, and deceive with his lies, we can talk back to the devil using the Word of God. Jesus did it when the tempter came to  Him on the other side of the wilderness.  God the Father did it when He challenged him concerning faithful Job. Have you talked to the devil lately?

The Word of God is alive and accomplishes God’s purposes every time it is spoken. When we belong to God through our acceptance of  Christ as Savior, we have authority to use His Word against the schemes of the enemy: The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the [whole] person; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.  The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure and bright, enlightening the eyes.  Psalm 19: 7-8

Have you considered what would have become of Jesus if He’d listened to the devil and given in to temptation? He was hungry, tired, and discouraged after 40 days in the wilderness. Giving in would have been easy! He needed the power of the Perfect Law in His earthly life just as we do today. Sadly, most of us simply accept what the accuser says about us through thoughts in our mind. We  believe what we hear or believe how we are feeling,  instead of challenging what comes against us with the Word of God. If Jesus used the Word to cast down the schemes of the devil, how much more do we need to use scripture against this deceiver?

The next time the enemy of your soul  tries to cause fear, or brings accusations, the next time he  tempts you in your moment of weakness–talk back to the devil!

We cannot contradict the lies of the devil unless we know the Word of God…what steps can you take to become a more serious student of His Word today?

  1. What a powerful statement: The Word of God is alive and accomplishes God’s purposes everytime it is spoken! Love it, thanks!

  2. What we can all do to become more serious students of His words, is to speak it into being! His words are powerful and sharper than any 2 edged sword. So, you’re right…we have to talk back to the devil–with God’s word.

  3. Amen to this one we should never listen to the enemy but destroy him and put him under our feet with the living Word of our Living God
which is more powerful than any double edged sword and any tongue forked lies the devil feeds our minds with. I could not agree with you more!

  4. Yes!!!! Great encouragement to use that Sword!!! Been doing that a long time now, it sure does work!!!
