Superman

Look!!!

It’s a bird… it’s a plane… no… it’s…

Super-Dad!

OK, that’s pushing it a little too far. So they can’t fly, but to their children, they can do just about everything else. Dads will get us out of trouble, teach us how to throw a ball, fly a kite, and do cart wheels. Dads rescue us from bullies as well as bad boyfriends. They appear to be the strongest men alive, and they are usually great handymen too. Doesn’t that sound like a superhero to you?

The greatest supermen are those fathers who carry out their daily duties under the guidance of the three greatest role models; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Proverbs 14:26 states, “He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge.” While it’s no guarantee that Dads who consult their Bibles will have blemish free children and a happy life, it is evident that they’re better equipped to deal with all the curve balls that fatherhood throws at them. They tend to also instill sound values in their kids which stay with them throughout adulthood.

There are times when our fathers feel weak and helpless; like superman near kryptonite. When the fruit of their loins is sick and in pain, they can only offer a big hug and hope for the best. When their rebellious teens scoop them up in the whirlwind of teenage years, they have to grab on and struggle through it. When they’re unable to provide for their children financially, they feel useless. And when they lose a child, they sadly cry in defeat. 1 Corinthians 16:13 provides a word of encouragement to fathers during moments of weakness. It says “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.”

Finally, for those who are fatherless, there is still a reason to celebrate Father’s Day. Today, reach out to every positive father figures, and superb male role models who have made and still is making an impact in your life. The Lord will always provide a Super-Dad when you need one the most. He may not be biological, but God will grant him the capabilities to take on the role efficiently.

Super-Dads, on this very special day, stand proud. Stand with your hands on your hips, your chest lifted high, and your cape fluttering in the wind. Happy Father’s Day!
