Doing What God Wants Us To Do

I recently read a sentence in an article that said, “When we are doing what God wants us to do, He will take care of the rest.” That saying has stayed in my mind for weeks. There are many things that occupy our thoughts. We all have many obligations to take care of, but the one thing that must be given a primary focus is the work or ministry God as assigned to us, after our spouse or family, which should always come before ministry.

I am not saying that other things are not important, but Satan will try everything in his strategy to keep us distracted from what God wants. He does not want the world to hear the good news of salvation. This also means that we must give attention to our “activity list.” If an opportunity comes up in which we can become involved, we must evaluate it on the basis of whether or not it will take our focus off of God’s will for us. I must not  get involved in things that God never intended for me to do.

Worrying about situations is also a way to not give attention to what God has for us to do. A personal example is this. The more freed up my mind is from the cares of the world the more my thoughts are open to the leading of the Holy Spirit in writing articles. Sometimes topics to write about just pop into my head.

A lot of unexpected things happen in our lives over which we have no control. We must continue to give attention to God‘s will for us and let him take care of the other stuff. First Peter 5:7 says, “cast all your cares upon him because he cares for you.”Philippians 4:6-7 adds, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and minds in Christ Jesus.”

When we truly believe that God has our back, we will be anxious for nothing. This does not mean that we should never seek His wisdom and guidance, but we also don’t want to waste time doing unnecessary things if God already has it worked out.

Identify and focus on the things God wants you to do His kingdom work and ministry. Don’t let the other stuff of life keep you from it.

Is there anything in your life that is getting in the way of doing what God has for you to do?
