Five Reasons Why The Bible Is Divinely Inspired

It is written in 2 Peter 1:20-21, “Knowing this, that no prophecy of the scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”  II Timothy 3:16-17 adds, “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for proof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

Here are five reasons why it is inspired:

1. There is a common theme running throughout, from the beginning of the Old Testament to the end of the New Testament. “Though the Bible comprises many diverse books with different stories, it is ultimately one story of God’s redemptive plan for man, whom he created purposely in His image, for His glory, and for a personal relationship with Himself. The thirty-nine books of the Old Testament are united by a common thread centered on God’s promise to redeem mankind, and this thread continues through the New Testament, where that promise is fulfilled and questions are answered.” (1)

2. There is fulfilled prophecy in past and present current events to the exact detail. Prophecies made even in the Old Testament are being fulfilled now in our current events. There are way too many to mention, but any person who knows prophecy and is up on current events knows that this is true.

3. Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies himself.  Mathematician, Peter Stoner and others, have calculated the odds of one person fulfilling only eight of these prophecies. Cover the entire state of Texas with silver dollars to a depth of two feet, with one having a special marking on it. Then send a person who is blindfolded and have him pick up that one specially marked coin on the first attempt.

4. The Old and New Testament mirror each other, showing God’s sovereign plan for humanity from the beginning of time to the end of time.

• The Old Covenant in Genesis 12 to Malachi mirrors the New Covenant in Acts to Jude.
• One world government in Genesis 10-11 mirrors the one world government in Revelation 6-19.
• The world judged and destroyed in Genesis 6-9 mirrors the world judged and destroyed in Revelation 6-19.
• Satan and sin entering in Genesis 3-5 mirrors Satan and sin exiting in Revelation 20.
• God and righteous people in paradise in Genesis 1-2 mirrors God and the redeemed in paradise in Revelation 20-22.

5. There are thousands of cross references between the Old and New Testaments. Cross reference is defined as a reference to another text or part of a text given in order to elaborate on a point, or a connection between passages that show how they relate to each other.

The author of the Bible is God. Consider putting your faith and trust in Jesus, God’s son in human flesh, who died on the cross for your sins and rose from the dead that you might have eternal life. Then begin reading the Bible, His inspired word.
