The Gravity Of Our Ideas

Our ideas are born from other men’s ideas. The ideas found in God’s word are transcendent truths. Timeless ideas from God written down by men inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes it’s through a song sometimes it’s through the written word, blog post or article but every man’s idea stems from someone else’s. And ultimately I think from the word of God. When you think of it that way: no man really has a novel idea. Although to us it may be novel surely someone somewhere, in the time man has expressed thought ,has had the same thought. Maybe no one has recorded it or exposed it to other people but a new idea is a seemingly rare one.

That’s not to say Christians shouldn’t think or express thoughts. It is necessary for man to think less he be deceived by the enemy. Romans 12:2 — And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Here Paul tells us to renew our minds. To let it transform us. We use God’s word to discern ideas and apply them. Here we’re talking about the Bible and the truths and helpful hints found in it.

As I’ve hinted to in a previous article the preacher should not use worldly things in the pulpit to spur on the listeners. As the beginning of verse 2 states: and be not conformed to this world. The church with all her errors needs to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and not capitulate to the worldly ideologies to try and be appealing to the secular crowd. Using those secular ideas might draw people in but then they’ll only stay if they keep hearing those same ideas. So the church should not pander to the secular but instead preach to the sheep. Feed the flock. Care for them. Only the word of God is sufficient for those tasks.

But be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. To transform something, or someone in this case, means to make a thorough or dramatic change in the form, appearance, or character of.

The character is what I want to focus on here. A change of character is a hard one. It takes time and repetition. Through our minds as it says above. The Holy Spirit changes our minds through God’s words. When we read the word the Holy Spirit is transforming and convicting us every second. The preaching of God’s word transforms men from selfish block heads to humble servants. And that is the will of God for every man. That we serve. We serve our God and we serve others. Because when we know that Christ died for us our lives are holy bound to his.

So when our ideas are aligned with His, we will inevitably change. In order for our ideas to align with His our minds have to be renewed.

  1. Hello Matthew,

Thanks for another important message. I find that to be so true that when we align with Him and His Word, we all are conformed into that mode of thought, and ways and therefore “renewed.”

Keep shining your light, look forward to your next article.

    God Bless you Matt~
