Here are my questions and answers from my interview with Dr. Donaldson. Some of these questions are geared to the obesity epidemic in the United States.
One, To lose weight what are foods to avoid?
There are two ways to lose weight, slow and gradual, and a quick fast method. I’ve written about the benefits of each in this article: https://myhdiet.com/blogs/healthnews/is-slow-and-steady-actually-better-for-you-than-fast-weight-loss.
Eat foods. Not too much. Mostly plants. That sums up how to eat in seven words.
Avoid foods that are not really foods.Ultra processed stuff, And stuff made in a food factory. Junk food. Sugar sweetened beverages are out too. Refined vegetable oil is out. The best choices are extra-virgin olive oil. A little bit of vegetable oil is fine, but the refined bleached, deodorized vegetable oil is junk food. A plant-based diet with a small amount of protein that is high in fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, organic whole grains, and legumes will work quite well.
Two, what foods help to maintain optimum health?
The most important foods to include in a daily diet are- Barley max, fruits, berries, flax seeds, vegetable juice, greens, raw or cooked vegetables, tree nuts and seeds, beans, and organic whole grains.
Three, what food should be avoided to maintain optimum health?
Processed foods and a diet that is heavy in dairy, eggs, and meat. Stay away from a lot of sweets.
Four, what foods should be eaten at every meal?
Some kind of fresh, uncooked food should be eaten at every meal, fruits and vegetables, including salads.
Five, what are the benefits from eating lots of fruits and vegetables?
You can get the benefit of a pound of produce in a simple 8-ounce glass of vegetable juice. At one point, River and George Malkmus had a list of over 70 different health issues that were reversed by people following the Hallelujah Diet: type two diabetes, heart disease, obesity, quite a few different autoimmune disorders, and some cancers have successfully reversed with a diet that is high in fruit and vegetables.
Basically, the risk of all chronic degenerative diseases is much lower when you adopt a diet that is high in fruits and vegetables. An idea of what is possible can be found on the testimonies page on the Hallelujah Diet website: Health News (myhdiet.com/blog/testimonial.)
Six, how many calories should a person eat?
If you focus on eating whole foods, mostly plant, then you will tend to get full, and your appetite will guide you as to how much to eat. Are you hungry or just thirsty? Are you having more real food or just sweets or snacks? You will learn over time how much food you need to eat to feel good, have energy for your day, and maintain your body weight.
Seven, how can we change the obesity epidemic?
We have changed our culture and food in such a way that obesity is the natural outcome, not healthy weight and strength. It is not this way all around the globe. So, the long-term way to fix this is to remove food choices voluntarily…But these choices that are favored by our culture should be those that promote good health. Part of the problem is our own appetite for unhealthy foods. If we buy and choose healthy foods, there won’t be a demand for nearly as much junk food. This should be built right into our culture. We have drifted away from the concept of health by modern lures of conveniences, easy access to food, and modern life that does not require much movement at all.
In summary, my comment.
Eating natural foods, as God intended from the very beginning, is a step toward not being so dependent on prescription drugs. God created our bodies, and he knows what is best to put into them.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God”(I Corinthians 10:31).
