Loving God In The Everyday

A Tributary of Devotion: Loving God in the Everyday

To love God is not merely to obey Him — though obedience is sacred. It is to desire Him. To wake with the ache of His presence and to fold laundry as if folding linens for the altar. To sweep the floor as if preparing the path for His Spirit. To answer the phone, prepare a meal, or soothe a loved one not because we must, but because we want to — because our hearts have been captured by the One who first loved us.

This is the Christian life: not a checklist, but a current. A tributary flowing from the Source, winding through our daily tasks, our quiet routines, our unseen sacrifices. We do not serve because we are forced. We serve because we are found.

Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

This verse is not a command alone — it is an invitation. A beckoning into a life where every chore becomes a liturgy, every errand a procession, every sigh a prayer. When we choose to follow Him in the mundane, we sanctify the ordinary. We become living offerings.

Reflective Thought

What if your daily rhythm — the stirring of soup, the folding of towels, the gentle care of loved ones — is already a form of worship? What if your desire to follow Him is the very fragrance He delights in? You are not behind. You are not forgotten. You are walking with Him, even in the quiet.

“LORD- I want to follow You — not just in the grand gestures, but in the quiet corners of my day. Let my chores become communion, my errands become offerings, my breath become praise. Teach me to love You not because I must, but because I am Yours. In Jesus name, Amen.

  1. CD, you have really reached the heart and soul of walking with the Lord. Jesus becomes everything to us in all we do, say, or think because we love Him and He loves us. Thanks for a great devotional.

  2. I like the phrase, “a tributary from the Source winding through our daily tasks,,,. You really have a way with words that paint a mental picture.
