Longing For The Courts Of The LORD: Eternal Rewards

Longing for the Courts of the Lord

How lovely are Thy courts, O King,
Where angels rest and sparrows sing.
My soul finds peace in sacred air,
Where glory dwells and hearts repair.

Psalm 84:1 How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!

My soul it faints, my spirit cries,
To walk beneath Thy holy skies.
My heart and flesh in longing rise,
To seek the God who never dies.

Psalm 84:2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

The swallow finds her nesting place,
The sparrow rests in quiet grace.
But I, O Lord, must wait and yearn,
To dwell where sacred altars burn.

Psalm 84:3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself… even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.

Blessed are those who dwell with Thee,
Their praise flows on eternally.
No shadow dims their sacred song,
They worship where the saints belong.

Psalm 84:4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

Strength is found in hearts that trust,
In paths made pure, in ways made just.
Their journey leads through holy land,
Held gently by Thy guiding hand.

Psalm 84:5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

Through Baca’s vale, through tears and rain,
They walk with joy; they rise through pain.
The pools are filled, the wells restored,
Their steps are blessed, their hearts outpoured.

Psalm 84:6 Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

From strength to strength their spirits climb,
Each soul appears in sacred time.
In Zion’s light, they stand and pray,
Before the throne, they find their way.

Psalm 84:7 They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.

O Lord of hosts, attend my plea,
Let Jacob’s God give ear to me.
I lift my voice, I seek Thy face,
And rest in mercy’s warm embrace.

Psalm 84:8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.

Behold our shield, our hope, our light,
Look on Thine own with favor bright.
Let grace descend, let glory shine,
Upon the face of the divine.

Psalm 84:9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

One day with Thee is worth all time,
More than a thousand days sublime.
I’d rather serve at heaven’s door,
Than dwell in sin forevermore.

Psalm 84:10  For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand…

O Living God, You are the breath in my longing, the light in my ache. Let my soul never tire of seeking Your courts. Draw me near with cords of love, And let my heart and flesh cry out with joy. May Your Presence be my dwelling, Your holiness my home, And Your mercy my morning song. In Jesus’ name, Amen…”

  3. Looking out through the windows of Heaven
    He looks upon His children
As gentle as a mother hen, gathering her brood in
    Safe under her wings
Is an example of what our Lord is offering
To bring us into His shelter,
    It couldn’t get any better.
A place of refuge, a haven of rest,
Where we are comforted and truly blessed.

We look up to the clouds knowing He is there
When we are filled sometimes with despair
    But He reassures His own
    Someday you will be Home
So take heart that it is only a short while
Before we will look upon Him and see His sweet smile
    And we will rejoice
    when we hear His voice.
    “Come on in my children!”
