A Miracle in Today’s World

The Bible reveals that Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 14:8). We read the miraculous accounts in the Bible of the parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14), the defeat of hundreds of thousands of Midianites by 300 Israelites (Judges 7), the countless healings in the New Testament, and we think if God is always the same, why don’t we see Him in this kind of glory now?

Simple. Humanity no longer wants to see God. No longer do we see ourselves as the creation made in the image of God; instead man claims to be the ultimate authority. We aspire to be the giver and taker of life, the one with all the answers, the judge and jury of all things moral. We fight battles in the hospital, in the court room, and in the classroom without asking for the presence of God because mankind is trying to eliminate our very need for God.

Man tries to ignore God, claiming He doesn’t exist, but that doesn’t change who God was, is and will be. Just because we do not ask God for His presence does not mean He is absent. He sees each action, watches each situation, knows the outcome of each trial.

He still controls the world. Look at the alcoholic who unsuccessfully tried to give up alcohol a dozen times before yet is suddenly sober now. Look at the mother of three who was told she would never be able to have children. Look at the cancer survivor who was given only six months to live. All miracles. All the result of the God we try to deny.

God has the power to reveal Himself to the world, yet He grants us the freedom to choose whether we will come to Him by faith or run from Him. God the Father designed the plan for our salvation. God the Son provided the means to eternal life. God the Spirit continues to move on the hearts of men. This plan has not changed. God’s greatest miracle—grace, remains a choice that each of us must make. We can continue to pursue our own desires, or we can choose to recognize God’s authority and surrender to His love. One path will lead to salvation, the other to destruction. One to eternal life and the other to eternal torment.

Today is your choice. Choose to see Christ for who He really is, the Savior of the world. Choose to accept His miraculous gift. Choose to be the Miracle in Today’s World. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).

  1. Heidi Lynn,

This article certainly rings true. I think in a lot of ways people are afraid of God, when He is actually on their side and wants to help them. There is this belief that people have that if they can avoid God they can avoid the responsibilities that come with there being a Divine Creator. However, they miss the mark because, as you mentioned, God’s nature is steadfast and so our His promises. When we learn to utilize those promises, it a whole different story altogether. People are blessed and wonderful things happen. You covered this topic very well. Thanks so much for sharing. God bless.

  2. Great way of describing the ways of God in contrast to the ways of man. Hoe foolish we prove ourselves to be apart from Him.

13 And so the Lord says,
“These people say they are mine.
They honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
    And their worship of me
is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.[h]
14 Because of this, I will once again astound these hypocrites
    with amazing wonders.
The wisdom of the wise will pass away,
and the intelligence of the intelligent will disappear.”
15 What sorrow awaits those who try to hide their plans from the Lord,
who do their evil deeds in the dark!
“The Lord can’t see us,” they say.
“He doesn’t know what’s going on!”
16 How foolish can you be?
He is the Potter, and he is certainly greater than you, the clay!
Should the created thing say of the one who made it,
    “He didn’t make me”?
    Does a jar ever say,
“The potter who made me has no understanding”?
The book of Isaiah chapter 29
Is this a picture of what the world has become?

  3. Wonderful piece, Heidi! Glory has been given to He Who sits on the throne thru this. Your insight is very keen, because you have described the comdition the world is in today. Yet grace still abounds for those who will see. Thank you!

  4. This is basically the answer to the question that so many people ask: “If God is a God of love and grace, why does he allow so much pain, suffering, and injustice in the world?” The answer, as you have stated, is that people have a free choice to choose or reject God. Choosing to reject Him has consequences. Welcome to the family, Heidi. John, from Washington State.
