“Christian or Ferocious Wolf: Who are you Feeding?”

Have you ever heard someone say, “You are what you eat?” In other words, if you love fast food and continually eat fast food, your body will reflect what fast food does to your health. The same concept applies to the heart of those who call themselves Christians. If you are feeding your mind with things of the world, then what else would you expect to come out? Certainly not the things of God but merely things of the world instead.

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)

Have you ever met someone who called himself or herself a Christian yet in the same sentence, they are either using profanity, the name of God, putting down others with hurtful gossip or starting rumors of their own? In other words, they are a hypocrite. According to God’s word, they may not be the real deal. Instead, they may just be like those who are false prophets. “They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”

So how do you know if you have encountered a true believer, a Christ follower, the “real deal”? “By their fruit you will recognize them.” (Matthew 7:15-16) A true follower of Christ, just like a “good tree, cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus by their fruit you will recognize them.” (Matthew 7:17-20)

I have encountered several people in my life who claim to be Christians yet they mock the very God they say they worship. Or, they would rather expel more energy complaining about life than seeking God for answers to their circumstances that God has allowed.

As a true believer God has washed away all of our past and we are brand new in him, yet being brand new does not mean we don’t get dents in our shell along the way. It’s how we treat the damage that is the key component.

“Blessed is the man

who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked

or stand in the way of sinners

or sit in the seat of mockers.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord,

and on his law he mediates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by the streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season

and hose leaf does not wither.

Whatever he does prospers.

(Psalm 1: 1-3)

If you have been hurt, damaged, or have per-conceived opinion of a Christian I sincerely apologize that you have been mislead or misguided by the real image of what a follower of Christ should be like, and I ask that you would consider reshaping your opinion of who we are.

You see, a Christian is one who loves unconditionally regardless of who you are, what you have done, or what you will do. This is not an easy task, yet it is something that we strive to achieve every day. As a Christian, our lives are not perfect nor will they ever be until we are with our Savior. Instead, life is hard. We have struggles and challenges that we face daily, and how we handle each scenario represents where we are in our walk with Christ.  We live our lives according to His word and do our best to follow by His example, and we trust in Him to lead our lives according to His plan.

“For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” (Psalm 1:6)

So, if you are struggling with who you are, just know that you are not alone. We are all sinners who struggle in this world because we live in a fallen place, and it is only by the sacrifice of Jesus that our imperfections can be made perfect again. 1. Sometimes it’s easier to be merciful to one who does NOT know the Lord than one who claims to be a Christian but demonstrates unchristian behavior. It is harmful to the cause of Christ. God has shown me recently that he loves the Christian sinner just as much as the non-Christian sinner and that I shouldn’t show this prejudice. I have to lay down my ‘they-should-know-better’ attitudes (even if it’s true) Because it only feeds negative thinking.
It is a challenge to walk the fine line of calling out sin and speaking the truth in love. We have to rely on the Holy Spirit to help us to love and DISCIPLE other Christians to maturity and to love and LEAD non-believers to Christ.

  2. Well said! I appreciate you showing both sides of this “coin.” No one is perfect, yet Christians must be different from the world. We are not the final judge and jury, but we do judge fruit!

Thanks for the meat of the Word!

  3. Excellent article that goes right along with the one I wrote on “Celebrity Christians.” There are certain things that just don’t “mix” with calling oneself a Christian.
