Did you get it?

Billions of dollars sit in ‘unclaimed funds’ accounts across the United States. The legal, rightful owners of monies (i.e. inheritances, refunds, settlements) ‘receive’ the allocation, but they never actually ‘get’ the monies…  It is hard to believe, isn’t it?

Even odder, in all likelihood, many owners of these unclaimed funds struggle financially.  Unaware of the resources they could access, they strive to make do with meager resources.  Even more ironic, claiming these monies is neither costly nor difficult.  Unawareness is the reality that separates these recipients from their possessions!    Spiritually we see similar travesties of unawareness—and awesome parallel possibilities!

This bizarre situation reveals an important truth:  receiving is passive; getting involves action and awareness!  The nature of our God is to give…but we must take action to get.  It begins with salvation—for God gave His only son that whosoever believes in Him would have life.  The Gift is activated by belief.  And God does not stop giving at salvation.

As a believer in Christ, we have every resource needed to live a life of joy and triumph!  Discouragement and defeat are not included in our inheritance.  Too many are unaware of their possessions, though!  They struggle through life needlessly.  Check this out:

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness,

through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:  (2 Peter 1:3)

Now, that doesn’t mean every believer will have a life of ease; it doesn’t even mean every believer will receive good or even fair treatment in this world.  Rejection was the Savior’s earthly lot; it may be ours too.  This passage means we have all we need for abundant life with eternal purposes!  Emotional wounding, destructive addictions and ungodly lusts bow before the power of God.  They are no match to the resources we possess—when we know we possess them.

Knowing is the next key aspect of the verse.  We received all things at salvation but we embrace them through knowing more about our triune God:  Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  The call to the believer is a call to glory…to His eternal significance…and to virtue…to His holy right-ness.  We answer that call by knowing truth and living it out!  Receiving the power is not enough.  We must ‘get’ it so we can pass it on to all we encounter in our journeys of life!

The very power of God delivered us from sin—and delivered all things to us for His grand purposes! This life of faith comes with the power we need to walk out His godliness in the day-to-day—blessing others as we go.   We are saved for a purpose!  Let’s not leave unclaimed resources in our spiritual banks.  We need all we have…and so does this world.

  2. Thank you, Cora. My heart aches for the disconnect between faith and life. May we all rejoice in the fullness of life in Jesus :)!!

  3. Great article! So many let their spiritual blessings go unclaimed.

  4. The story is of a person who went to heven and God showed him a whole lot of unopened boxes. The person asked the Lord what was in all of them. The Lord told him that in each box was a blessing he never claimed in his earthly life.

  5. Thank you for taking the time to comment! As I prepared this, I was reminded we can not give what we have not received. For me, the saddest aspect of the unopened boxes and unclaimed blessings is what could have blessed the world around me! I don’t want to miss the blessing of pouring out His riches on this hurting world.
