False Worship Or The One True Living God

My research reveals that out of the world’s population Christianity has over 2.4 billion followers. There are 1.4 billion Catholics. Islam has over 2 billion followers. There are 1.2 billion Hindus, and about 500 million Buddhists. Fifteen million are of the Jewish faith, and there are over 17 million Mormons.

These above statistics mean that out of all these major religions of the world, except for some Messianic Jews who have accepted Jesus as their Messiah, only those of the Christian and Catholic faith, believe in Jesus as their savior. We can deduce from this that about 4 billion people do not know that there is a Savior for humanity and each individual person. This does not include all those who have no religious affiliation at all. With an estimated global population of 8.2 billion, this is almost half who know nothing of the savior, Jesus, and many of these worship dead idols. There is hopelessness and depression with no surety of eternal salvation. They know nothing of what is expressed in I Timothy 2:5. “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

Instead, billions of people have “idols of silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. They have ears, but do not; noses, but do not smell. They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk. And they do not make a sound in their throat. Those who make them become like them; So do all who trust in them”(Psalm 115:4-8).

Jeremiah 10:5-10 tells of the contrast between worthless idols, and the one truly living God.
Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak. They have to be carried for they cannot walk… There is none like you, O Lord. You are great and your name is great in might. Who would not fear you, O king of the nations? For this is your due; For among all the wise ones of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like you. They are both stupid and foolish; The instruction of idols is but wood!… but the Lord is the true God and the everlasting king. At his wrath, the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his indignation.”

If you are reading this in a culture that worships idols or any man-made object, know this: There is a God who created you and loves you. He can hear your prayers and see your needs. He was tempted as we all are yet without sin. Jesus lived a perfect life because he was and is God in human flesh. He lowered himself from his heavenly abode to come down to the human level, where he died for your sins and rose from the dead as the living Savior. You can have a personal relationship with him. He can bring you out of hopelessness and meet your deepest needs; something a worthless idol could never do. Not only that, you won’t have to try to earn your salvation through works, because Jesus offers the free gift of grace.

So the big question is: Why would you want to continue to worship a dead idol when you could have a relationship with the living God? “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven, given among men by which we must be saved”(Acts 4:12). “ Set your hope on the living God, who is the savior of all people, especially of those who believe”(I Timothy 4:10).
