In the Book of Psalms, the “steadfast love of God” appears over 100 times. This means that his love never waivers or changes. It is the same when the person does bad things as it is when someone is living a good moral and righteous life. Romans 5:8 says, “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” It is unconditional love expecting nothing in return.
Even in the context of evil Psalm 36:5 states, “your steadfast love, Oh Lord, extends to the heavens… Then in Psalm 52:1 we read, “Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all the day.”
Psalm 103:8-17 is full of the attributes of God’s steadfast love. “The Lord is merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide. Nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him. As far as the east is from the we, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame, He remembers that we are dust…But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him…”
It is humanly impossible to comprehend the level and intensity of God‘s love for humanity and each person, in our present culture of so much evil and rebellion against God. If you are suffering through depression or loneliness, God loves you. If you have been abused, rejected, or are in a very troubled relationship, God loves you. Even if you are shaking your fist at God out of anger, God loves you.
God loves each person equally. He shows no bias or prejudice. His love is the same no matter one’s religion, race, Jew or Gentile, straight or gay, transgender or male and female. His love is consistent and unchanging. Even when God gets angry, Psalm 30:5 says, “his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime.” He doesn’t hold grudges and doesn’t wait until you change. He loves you as you are right now, with all of your struggles, addictions, or imperfections.
God’s steadfast love can be summed up in Romans, 8:38-39. “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Do you want to experience the steadfast love of God in your life? He left his glory in heaven and came down to your earthly level to meet your deepest needs. He died for your sins, then rose from the grave. You can have peace, hope, forgiveness, security, and eternal salvation in heaven. The world needs the love of God more than ever. Accept him as your Savior.
Excellent message John.
Thank you. I cannot for one moment think or possibly understand “not” loving God or having Him front and center in my life. I’d be nothing apart from Him!
God Bless~
