The Universal Language Of The Gospel

Wycliffe Bible Translators reports that there are over 6,000 languages in the world, but there is one universal language: the message of the gospel. It is universal because it applies to each and every person, no matter their race, culture, religion, or past life. John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, Jesus, that whosoever believes in him, shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

No  one is ever refused who comes to God. “He that comes to God will by no means be cast away”(John 6:37). Acceptance is what people need the most, and rejection is what people fear the most. So, this message of the gospel offers acceptance with no fear of rejection.

Equality is a major feature of this universal language. All people can come to God on an equal basis just as we are, no matter what kind of life we have been through in the past. God doesn’t play favorites. It is not based upon how religious or righteous a person is, nor does living a really bad life disqualify us.  All people have fallen far short of God’s righteous standards. All of us are in need of God’s grace and forgiveness. This makes every person in the world equal.

This universal language also gives each person an equal opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness and grace. The word “gospel” means “good news.” And the way the world is today, we can all use some good news. The good news is that Jesus died for our sins but rose from the dead. He is alive today and can live in your heart through his Holy Spirit. He can transform your life with new meaning and purpose. He can become your Savior. This is the language of the gospel that crosses all the barriers of humanity.

It is the language of hope, peace, security, and love.

  • Hope: “According to his great mercy he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of  Jesus Christ from the dead”(I Peter 1:3).
  • Peace: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives…Let not your hearts be troubled. Neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27).
  • Security: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”(Psalm 46:1).
  • Love: ”God showed his love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”(Romans 5:8).

This universal message of the gospel provides all the things people are looking for, but a personal decision must be made to accept this free gift from God, available to each and every person.
