Our Hope: There Is A Time

There are some who say that God must have a great sense of humor, because He has created beings who are blessed with emotions.  Because of how we allow our emotions to take control of us at times, we often come across as rather comical.  However, that is not how God sees us.  While He created us for His pleasure, I don’t think He considers us the prime time show of the evening.

God knows the value of emotion.  And He also knows each emotion has value, especially if it is experienced at certain times, or seasons.  Emotion is what causes us to feel love, anger, fear, embarrassment.  Emotion also is what gives us motivation to do certain things, whether they be good or bad.  Without emotion, we would be walking robots, without a care, without a purpose.

There is a time for each and every emotion.  Not one person will live his or her life without experiencing each of them at some moment in time.  Some will experience them in different degrees, and in different ways.  For instance, some may experience more love than other people.  And some may know more fear than anything else.  But we all will go through each of them.  Because there is a time…

‘There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:  a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance…’ Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 (NIV)

These few verses encompass a lot of emotions, different ones for different seasons.  A season comes at different times of our lives, and with those seasons comes all the emotion that each activity causes to bloom within us.  As we pass through all the seasons of our lives, we learn, and we grow.  We may suffer, we may prosper, we may know joy, or we may weep with pain, but God will use all of these things to teach us, and to refine us.  When we come out on the other side of whatever season we are in, we will look back and see all that God did, and how He brought change to us through that time.

‘…a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.’  Ecclesiastes 3:5-8 (NIV)

Verse 3:11 goes on to say, ‘He has made everything beautiful in its time.’  He has made us.  He has given us emotions.  He has given us Jesus, our Savior.  He is Our Hope, and there is a time for all things, seasons to experience, and hope to gain the future He has promised to us.  While we live, laugh, love and cry, He is with us through it all.  That is the faithfulness of Our Hope.

Blessings!
