Finishing Life With God’s Purpose For You

Recently I turned 76 on June 9th. I asked the question, “What does God want to do with the rest of my life? How can my life be put to the best use with my gifts and abilities? Perhaps God will put a God-sized dream and burning desire in my heart. A God- sized dream is a goal or vision that is so big that only God can pull it off. Maybe it is something in music ministry or to expand my writing. Perhaps it is something new to me that has not been revealed to me yet. I would seek to have a confirmation about it from another person. I will also do what I can to maintain good physical and mental health so that I am “fit” to serve God and up to doing the work and mission He has for me.

Whatever God may lead me into I know I need to live a godly and obedient life of faith with the willingness to take on new opportunities for ministry. The time is short to get out the message of God‘s love and grace to a world without hope and peace.

It has been a blessing to have lived in this generation at this time in history. I have witnessed astronauts walking on the moon, seen advancements in technology, have crossed paths with influential people who set my life on a course of music and writing, but most of all have seen God’s grace pull me through some very hard times of sickness and economic adversity.

Sadly, I’ve also witnessed a decline in morality and adherence to biblical truth. I know how life used to be when I was growing up, compared to how it is now, when people sat down and talked face-to-face because there was no social media or cell phones. There were no gun control laws, but also mass shootings were extremely rare. I know the value of a family with a mom and a dad. I went to school when teachers taught the basics of education  and they were respected. Religion and faith were of central importance. Male and female were considered a creation of God.

I am blessed to have the opportunity to write articles for a Christian website, such as the bottom line, to help get the world back on track to spiritual and moral clarity and values. I will continue to write unless God leads me in a different direction. My mission statement is found in Psalm 71:17-18 and Psalm 78:6-8. “ Oh God, from my youth you have taught me and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds, so even to old age and gray hairs, Oh God do not forsake me until I proclaim your might to another generation and your power to all those to come… that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn and arise, and tell them to their children so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.”

No matter how God leads, He is “Able to do far more abundantly than all that I ask or think, according to the power that works within me” (Ephesians 3:20). This is my life verse.

What about you? If you are a retiring senior, what are your plans with the rest of your life? If you are a Christian, ask God what He has planned for you. Don’t allow yourself to drift. How can God put your life to the best use to really make your senior years count for his kingdom?

Take the goals you have for traveling, playing with the grandkids, and doing all the things you’ve always wanted to do, but never had the time. Then combine and balance all of that with a life mission and message. You will have an exciting and purposeful existence as a senior more than you ever thought possible. You will be able to look back and truly say that the final chapter of your life was by far the best.
