Home: A Movie With an Important Message

A curly hair little girl called Tip, and a purple, bright eyed Boov specie called Oh, star in the recent hit movie, Home. Tip and Oh paths crossed during the Boov’s invasion of earth. They then journeyed together to find Tip’s mom. Though they seem like an unlikely pair, both are having “Home” issues. Oh is pretty much homeless, as he moves from planet to planet in order to escape his enemies, the Gorg aliens. Tip, on the other hand, is on a mission to find her mother and reunite with her home. Home for her is the security and familiarity she has with her mother, in a world that has become saturated with aliens.

The movie, Home, is an exciting and entertaining film fit for the family. It highlights two very profound points. One, the importance of family and two, how each individual interprets the place he or she calls home. It’s clear that not all houses are homes—and an unhappy child or an abused wife can testify. Home can be many things to many people. Still, some qualities are considered universal. Here are eight criteria for a home.

Home is where…

  1. Happiness lives
  2. We feel comfortable in our own skin
  3. Burdens and stress from the outside world melt away
  4. We are surrounded by familiar faces we love
  5. Trust is cultivated and practiced
  6. We feel welcome, safe, and secure
  7. Peace of mind and contentment are permanent residents
  8. Love dwells

For most of us, our house entertains these qualities which transforms it into a home. A home that we look forward to retire in after a long day at work or play, and where we’ll find our loved ones. Hence, like Tip, when our home is in jeopardy, we’ll go to any extreme in order to put things right. Likewise, our Heavenly Father created a perfect world for us to call home. However, it’s now in jeopardy due to our sins. That’s why Christ will come again and do what’s necessary to restore this world.

“My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.” (Isaiah 32:18)
“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” (Proverbs 24:3-4)

  1. I also think another important message this movie shows is putting others before yourself as Oh did at the end of the movie. During the the movie he tries to be sneaky and ditch Tip at the gas station, go to Antarctica instead of finding Tips mom etc. and end the end he finally stops thinkin of only himself which it’s a great lesson for our youth since we live in a time that our youth are being taught to be all about themselves first.
