Be A Person With A Purpose

Many people seem to be living with no purpose. They appear to be aimlessly going about their daily activities with no focus, with a cell phone in their hand every minute. Others spend much time on social media, entertainment, video games, television, and trivial pursuits. Depending upon the qualities of these activities there may be nothing wrong with them up to a point and in moderation, but some may be totally absorbed in the culture of social media, entertainment, and technology. There has to be more to living. God did not intend for life to be lived this way.

The current culture is not conducive for people thinking with a purpose and focus. Each person’s life can be become something of value with realized goals and dreams, but we must take charge of our own thinking. Being totally caught up in a culture that will not allow you to think on your own will get you nowhere fast. One must create their own culture in their mind and activities that will get you where you want to go in life. Think with purpose and intentionality. Romans 12:2 says, “do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”  Renewing your mind means to get rid of the old way of thinking and focus on new thoughts. This is done by the types of things you look at, the types of books you read, the kind of music you listen to, the activities you engage in, and the people with whom you associate.

If you are absorbed and obsessed with the culture of social media, technology, and entertainment, you may never know the person you could have become or where you could have gone in life. You will have nothing to show for why you lived!

If you are a Christian but are allowing the culture to control your thinking, the Bible has several words for you. The last part of Romans 12:2 says you will be able to” discern the will of God.”  You will never be able to know the will of God for your life if your mind is saturated with a constant intake of social media and the world ‘s entertainment.

God wants to do a work in your life, but you must cooperate with him by not allowing your mind to be directed by the culture. 1 John 2:15-16 says,Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world the love of the father is not in him, for all that is in the world, the desires that the flesh and the desires of the eyes and the pride of life is not from the father, but it’s from the world.”

Are you committed to Christ or to the culture?

Cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for you (Psalm 57:2). He will be “able to do far more abundantly than all that you ask or think, according to the power that works within you” (Ephesians 3:20).

Come out of aimless living and into the life that God has for you. There are two most important days of your life, the day that you were born and the day that you discover your purpose for being here. For some there is a third day. It is the day that you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. He is the true source of your purpose for living.
