Has God Given You The Writing Bug?

In today’s world, there’s so much information being passed around. This is one of those things that can be labeled as both a blessing and a curse due to all the conflicting views and opinions. These varying ideas can become so confusing that it can make people question the very gospel we Christians hold dear to ourselves. With that being said, as Christians it is our duty to be a light amongst all the ridiculous banter darkening people’s minds, so that people can walk down that ever-so-important narrow path so eloquently spoken of in scripture by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (Matt 7:14).

The Internet is one of those avenues of communication that can be a light on to others. Sure there’s TONS of garbage on the Internet, but when Christians get involved in putting biblical content on the web, a lot more opportunities arise for people to hear truth. So I’m going to ask you a very important question. Has God given you the writing bug?

I’m asking this question because writing has, and always will be, a great platform for communicating truth. In fact, the Holy Spirit gave the writing bug to all the human authors of our Holy Bible. Even when John was exiled to the Island of Patmos, Jesus’ testimony was given by his messenger, which led to the writing of the book of Revelation (Rev 1:1-2). Today, we have sixty-six books in our bible, which were all inspired by the Godhead (2 Tim 3:16).

I would like to encourage you to either pick up a pen and paper, or get on a computer and begin writing for the Lord. In fact, I’m even going to give you some quick pointers on how to get started:

  • Be confident in yourself. Don’t worry about whether or not you’re an experienced writer because we all have to start somewhere. It’s kind of like swimming. The best way to learn it is to “jump right in.”
  • Get yourself connected with other writers who can help critique and fine tune your work. Sure, people will find mistakes, but even the best writers use editors. It’s all just part of the process.
  • Find a good platform to share your writing. This could be a personal blog, an e-book, or even a writer’s forum. The important thing is that you’re getting exposure and even if you reach just one person with a piece you write, it’s all worth it. Remember, what you might have kept bottled up might be of benefit to someone else when it comes out.
  • Have fun! Write about things that interest you, and even share personal experiences. This is important because people often share common interests and they’ll be able to relate to your material. Who knows? You might even make a few friends along the way.

In closing, I just want to say that writing is AWESOME! Thank you for reading and God bless.

  1. Over the past 15 years I have written a lot of stuff on various game forums and blogs even wrote a book four or five years ago during National Novel Writing Month. Even as a kid I wrote for fun and in all those years I never thought that is was something inspired by God.

However, after I read this article, I got to thinking. There was something that actually compelled me to write that could be considered Divinely inspired.

Back about six or seven years ago, my brother and his wife told me about the site nanowrimo.org. Basically it is trying to write a 50 thousand page novel in the month of November. They had been doing it for a couple few years and never did it. They thought I might like to give it a go. Pretty sure they told me about it in October so, I only had a couple weeks to think of something to write about.

Usually, I’m pretty good with that kinda thing, but as the days went by, nothin. As I was laying in bed jotting ideas down in a note book one evening it seemed like no idea was going to work well enough for me to get 50k words from it. That night I had a dream. It was kinda weird and some of it was hard to remember, but the moment I awoke I had my story.

That year I didn’t get to the 50k words, (think I made it to 20k) The following year I did make it and got the idea for that book almost the same way. Wasn’t asleep it just popped in my head while laying in bed.

For whatever reason, that first book is something I still think about and wish I would have finished. It always pops in my head out of nowhere. Maybe it was just an odd dream or maybe God really did intervene in a weird sort of way. After reading this article, I’m starting to lean in that direction.

    😀

  2. Joel, I’ve got the bug!
