Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. – Genesis 18:14
Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? – Jeremiah 32:27
And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. – Luke 18:27
The Bible makes it pretty clear that there is nothing that God can’t do. Whether it be saving souls or raising the dead, His power is infinite. There is no task too daunting, no problem too big. We have God’s word on it, but if that’s not enough for you, here are a few witnesses of God working in miraculous ways.
In the book of Genesis, God told Abraham and Sarah that they would bear a son and become the father and mother of a great nation. But the lovely couple was skeptical. Why? Perhaps it was because Abraham was nearly 100 years old and Sarah was right behind him. It didn’t seem possible to them that they could have a child in their old age. After all, Sarah had been barren for 90 years. What was going to change? Simple. God had a plan, and the time had come for Him to fulfill His plan.
We could ask Joseph about God’s work in doing the impossible. This poor boy was sold into slavery by his brothers and later cast into prison for a crime he didn’t commit, but Joseph would soon learn that even in the dark times, God has all power. The Lord used the circumstances in Joseph’s life to put him in a place of authority where he saved the entire land from starvation.
Or how about Daniel? After spending a night in a den of hungry lions, what could Daniel tell you about God’s ability to do anything? He would tell you that it pays to pray and that, no matter what, nothing can thwart God’s plan.
The three Hebrew children could testify how God brought them out of the fiery furnace without a singed hair or a whiff of smoke. Lazarus could tell you how he had been dead for four days when suddenly he heard a voice calling his name. Before he realized what was happening, he was alive, awake and amazed. The stories of Peter are no fish tales. He could recount the two occasions where the disciples caught more fish than they knew what to do with or entrance you with the tale of his stroll across the stormy sea. Even a nameless little boy could mystify you with a story of how Jesus used his meager lunch to feed over 5,000 people.
Tale after tale. Miracle after miracle. The Bible is full of testimonies of how God sees His people through even when things look impossible. And I believe those stories are there for our benefit so that when we face impossible situations, we’ll remember that we serve an all-powerful God. No matter how big the problem is, God is bigger. No matter how dark the situation becomes, God will be your light. There is nothing He can’t do. He’s given us His promise. He’s given us examples of His might and faithfulness. All that’s left is for us to trust.
What situation are you facing today that has you doubting whether or not God can really do anything about it? Are you willing to put your doubt aside and take God at His word?
