Convention Of States – Solution For Bloated And Overcontrolling Government?

As a born-again Christian, you know that the only genuine solution for America’s problems is for our nation to return to God through a God-sent revival. And if you are praying for a perfect government, you are actually praying for the return of Jesus to rule and reign.

Whether we agree or disagree with the initial actions of the new Trump administration, we need to recognize that an Executive Order from the President is temporary. The next President could reverse President Trump’s actions with additional Executive Orders. The EO’s will only be permanent if Congress enacts them into law.

While we pray and wait, we still look for solutions to bring our country back to its Judeo-Christian heritage. The most significant solution is the Convention of States. Our American founding fathers demonstrated great wisdom as they wrote and ratified our Constitution. They knew that men would always practice their own sinful nature. The temptations of power and greed frequently overcome even the best of leaders. So, they inserted Article V into the Constitution so that citizens could have the power to reign in the federal government.

Article V of the Constitution of the United States reads as follows:

“The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no  Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.”

There are several key issues that, over many years, our Congress has failed to correct even though these issues were well-known and pervasive. Here are four issues outlined in the “Article V Convention of States Pocket Guide.”

  1. The spending and debt Crisis (current debt is about $36 trillion, increasing by $70,547 per second.)
  2. Regulatory Crisis (annual cost of compliance about $2 trillion)
  3. Congressional attacks on State Sovereignty. Powers not enumerated in the Constitution belong to the states. (Tenth Amendment to the Constitution)
  4. Federal takeover (from states) of the decision-making process.

Is the convention a workable solution?   In early American history, several interstate conventions worked well. In 2016 and 2023, there were simulated conventions. The 2023 convention had representatives from all 50 states (three each). They presented constitutional amendments, debated, and voted. They proved conclusively that the Constitutional Convention would work.

The Convention of States (COS) Foundation began in 2013. The COS has done extensive work to influence legislators in all states to approve resolutions asking for a convention of states. Thus far, 19 of the 34 required states have already voted to participate. Both legislative houses in each state passed the legislation. The states are Utah, Arizona, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Wisconsin, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Indiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, West Virginia, and Alaska. In addition, Wyoming and South Dakota have passed the COS resolution in one chamber. There is active COS legislation in an additional nine states.

Here are a few of the nationally known figures who have endorsed and supported COS:  Dr. Kevin Roberts, President of Heritage Foundation; Kirk Cameron, Mark Levin, Gov. Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, Sean Hannity, Senator Rick Santorum, Representative Pat Fallon, Gov. Greg Abbott, Senator Rand Paul, Gov. Mike Dunleavy, Gov. Sarah Palin, Ben Shapiro, Dr. James Dobson, Marco Rubio, Gov. Mike Huckabee, Pete Hegseth, Dr. Ben Carson, Gov. Bobby Jindal, Charlie Kirk of Turning Point, David Barton, Gov. Jeb Bush, Morton Blackwell of Leadership Institute, J.D. Vance, VP, and many others.

The following amendments could be considered according to the “Article V Convention of States Pocket Guide.”  (This Pocket Guide is available at the websites listed below.)

“AMENDMENTS TO CONSIDER AT A CONVENTION OF STATES

At an Article V Convention of States, delegates will have the opportunity to debate and pass amendments that could:

  • Limit Supreme Court Justices to nine members.
  • Prevent the addition of states without the affirmative consent of three quarters of the existing states.
  • Require members of Congress to live under the same laws they pass for the rest of us.
  • Impose term limits on members of Congress.
  • Require a balanced federal budget.
  • Impose limits on federal spending and/or taxation.
  • Get the federal government out of our healthcare system.
  • Get the federal government out of our education system.
  • Stop unelected federal bureaucrats from imposing regulations.
  • Set term limits for Supreme Court Justices.
  • Set term limits for federal bureaucrats, ending the dominance of the “swamp.”
  • Remove the authority of the federal government over state energy policy.
  • Force the federal government to honor its commitment to return federal lands to the states.

At this Convention, delegates from the states will gather for the sole purpose of proposing amendments that limit the power, size, and spending of the federal government, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.”

Now is the best time and opportunity to join this history-making movement to bring America back to its founding principles.

You have dual citizenship if you live in the United States and are a born-again Christian. You are a citizen of heaven (“For our conversation – citizenship – is in heaven; Philippians 3:20) and of the United States. God has blessed us to live in a free country. Concerning earthly citizenship, Jesus said, “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s and unto God the things which be God’s.” (Luke 20:25). Let’s be good citizens of both heaven and the United States.

While we wait for the Lord’s Coming, we need to be good citizens in America. What does the Lord want you to do?
