“Yes” Just For The Sake of One

Her name hit me like a brick as I began to surf and gleam the virtual newsstands.  Stopping on the CNN headline, tears began to form in the corner of my eyes while the heaviness in my heart began to grow.  Miley Cyrus hospitalized with ‘severe’ reaction to antibiotics.”

In just saying the first name, the conversation may immediately become controversial.  The article I came across stated that she was scheduled for a performance in Kansas City, Missouri, but instead she was hospitalized and put on bed rest due to a severe allergic reaction (CNN).

My tears and ache however are not because I am a Miley fan or that I am sorrowful because she is being treated for a reaction.  (And I don’t mean that in a negative way) Instead, I am saddened for all that she has lost and the choices she continues to make in her life.

In this world it is so difficult to not give in to our worldly desires especially when we recognize a talent within ourselves.  Yet, how we use that talent, For God, or for glory will determine our path in life. “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:25-26)

The world of Hollywood is notorious for preying on the lives of young kids who have even an inclining of talent.  Yet God cries out to us to “not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)

Yet, how do we keep our minds pure in a world constantly saturated with lust, desires, and fleshly choices?  We must daily walk with Him as Adam, Enoch, Joseph, Abraham, and many others of our ancestors did.

The world may call Miley Cyrus famous for the character she has created and the money she has obtained, but to God, she is just Miley a child whom He has created and known even before she was born. (Psalm 139)

As Christians, we are called to pray for those who cannot or will not pray for themselves.  Even for this one lost sheep, Jesus would still leave his flock, and he still would have gone directly to that cross even if it meant saving only the life of Miley Cyrus.  Pray for this lost sheep that she would be led back to her shepherd and made whole again.

  1. My thoughts exactly regarding those who are too busy seeking fortune and fame at the expense of their souls. The trapping of this world that blind the eye and bind the heart to destroy the soul is the snare we are all prone to stumble into.
We need to pray that the blinders are removed and they begin to see things in His light!!

  2. This is a great reminder, also, for using our abilities and gifts in the correct way. When we align our giftedness with God’s purpose for our lives, like writing for instance, incredible things happen, and God open doors for us that only he could do. Look what happened to all of us as writers for thebottomline.co.

  3. Lord use this ‘down time’ to speak to Miley. Let her heart be open to You. May all those enjoying talents, gifts, and successes in this world realize that they are all God-given. My we never forget to tell You ‘thank you.’ Amen
