Our Hope: All The Small Things

‘In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.’  Psalm 86:7 (NIV)

Do you worry?  Do you get caught up in worry over small things?  I do, and I often have to chastise myself for it.  Little by little, I can allow small things to ‘grow’, and then I have that overwhelming sense of worry.

After a little while, though, I come back to my senses and remember who I am in Christ.  I am His.  I am the daughter of the Most High God.  I have a part in His inheritance.  I have brothers and sisters all over the world.  He watches me while I sleep at night; He wakes me in the morning.  He sees my coming ins and my going outs.  So what on earth do I ever have to worry about?

We all have our days, don’t we?  Our ‘worry’ days.  That does not make us bad Christians, and it does not make us evil.  It simply makes us human.  And since God created us, don’t you think He knows this already?  We should not spend undue time beating ourselves up over small things.  I don’t mean to imply that small things may not be important things.  Quite often they are.  But the most important thing about those small things is this:  God cares about them, because they cause us worry.

God does care about all things that are of concern to us.  Philippians 4:6 reminds us to ‘not be anxious about anything…’.  It does not say to be anxious only about the big things.  It says anything.

Our Father in Heaven does not want us to worry.  In fact, worry is considered a sin.  Concern is justified under many circumstances, but worry is simply a signal that we do not trust God.  If we trust Him completely, then we would not ever worry, right?  Wrong!  Again, we are human beings.  We will worry, but when we see it for what it is, and learn to look through His eyes, we will be able to lay it to rest and trust Him.

When we find ourselves worrying, if we will call on His name, and ask for wisdom, He will answer our call.  That is because He is Our Hope, and He will always answer…even if we are calling about the small things.

‘Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’  Matthew 6:34 (NIV)

Blessings!
