The Trees Fight.

I like this vision Daniel has about a tree.

Daniel 4:10-11 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great. The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

I like trees. When I was younger I remember bringing home a redbud sapling and planting it in our backyard. Watching it turn from a fragile twig to a strong lively tree was something that has stuck with me to this very day. I cut trees down from time to time either for firewood or cleaning up after a natural disaster. It started out as a way to make money selling the firewood but now I just do it when the occasion arises. In some ways I hate cutting them down. There is a measure of respect that comes from their sturdy presence and I’ll always give them that.

Hiking in the trees has been a great hobby for me that I don’t intend on stopping. I enjoy walking among them, I feel safe.

The Trees Fight

I talked to a tree just the other day,
Must have been around the beginning of May

Buds were blooming, new life was coming,
The birds on the branches were humming.

His roots ran deep, his footing sure,
Strong as I had ever seen before.

The sturdy old tree didn’t seem to have a worry,
Even when the squirrels began to scurry.

The wind picked up, the mighty tree began to sway,
A storm was brewing about a mile away.

I asked the old tree if he would make it through the night,
He answered “Yes” but not without a fight.

“I’ll likely lose a branch or two or three,
But I’ll make the morning dawn, just you wait and see.”

The stubborn old tree did see the mornings light.
Minus a few branches lost during the fight.

New leaves will form, the branches will keep growing,
A bigger tree will arise in spite of the savage wind blowing.

  1. thanks matthew

  2. Interesting how you composed a poem based on a tree. We, as people, face challenges that “blow” at us. We need to resist the “ winds of opposition” that come against our faith.

This was a great metaphorical depiction of our faith –
I found it to be powerful and interesting at once.
    Great job
    God Bless~
