How to “Yo-Yo Diet” and Lose Weight

When people typically think of yo-yo dieting, they think of the cyclic process of continually losing and gaining weight. This type of dieting not only is dangerous, but you’ll more than likely never reach and maintain a healthy weight ideal for your body type. Today, I’m going to tell you how to yo-yo diet another way. I’m going to tell you how to diet not as the yo-yo novice, that is unstable, but rather the yo-yo master.

Have you ever watched a true yo-yo master at work. It’s a beautiful thing. There are four principles the master uses that make him or her successful. They are momentum, consistency, stability, and follow-through. Please allow me to talk about each of them.

Momentum

The yo-yo master must use momentum to keep the yo-yo moving. As soon as the momentum is removed, the yo-yo will quickly begin to lag and the trick cannot continue. As dieters, you need to exert energy to allow your body the chance it needs to lose weight. If all you’re doing is pouring calories into your body and crossing your fingers hoping you didn’t eat too much, you’re likely going to be unhappy and your diet is going to fail. Having this momentum will not only boost your metabolism, but it will help you burn the calories you consumed and you will be on your way to losing weight.

Consistency

Another technique the yo-yo master uses is consistency. For instance, say he wants to do “walk the dog” or “around the world.” He or she must be consistent with their motion or the yo-yo will go limp. As dieters, we need to be consistent. Dieting isn’t six-day-a-week affair and on the seventh day you get to eat a pie sorta thing. You must continue to diet and find healthy foods you like to support any hunger cravings.

Stability

Something every yo-yo master must do is incorporate their body into the trick, because their body acts as both an anchor and support for the yo-yo., it can add tension or reduce tension. However the master stabilizes himself is going to determine how well the trick goes. Likewise, we must have stability in our dieting. You can’t jump from one diet to the next. You need to find a diet that incorporates healthy food and exercise, and stick with it..

Follow-through

One of the most important techniques the yo-yo master uses is follow-through. He or she knows that if they do not have momentum, consistency, or stability they’ll look like an amateur. They also know that if they follow through with what they know that it will come easy and they’ll be able to perform the same tricks repeatedly with little effort.. As dieters, we must do the same. We must continually stick with the diet. Even when we’ve reached that “ideal weight” the diet isn’t over. We must maintain the diet in order to stay at that weight and stay healthy. The truth of the matter is that if you don’t follow through, and start eating cakes and pies, you’re simply going to pack on the pounds again.

Final Thought

Friends, God loves you whether you are big, tall, thin, or small. Dieting is a choice one must make for themselves. Of course there are health benefits to it, but nonetheless, God will love you regardless. However, if you do decide to diet, please find a plan that works best for you. I would also encourage you to apply the principles in this article to your dieting because they are so very important and they will help you not to yo-yo like an amateur, but rather a fully skilled master. Thank you for reading and God bless.

  1. This is a very interesting article Joel. I like the yo-yo “spin” on things. You have presented very helpful tips that are not only factual but effective. I’ve proven them personally…though I didn’t use the yo-yo terminology!

PS: A very eye catching title.
