A New Year’s Revolution

I was thinking the other day;
When the coming New Year was still many days away,
I ought to make some kind of New Year’s resolution.
I need to make a change; to find some good solutions.
After thinking on it for a very long while,
My small list of needed changes turned into a very large pile.

Which one do I change?
There’s just too many deck chairs to rearrange.
Then with a chuckle and a grin, I thought.
My resolutions made never last as long as they ought.
Glad I don’t have to confess them all to a priest for purification.
It would do me way more good if I just started a revolution.

For, my temper is way too short.
I am way too much of a worry-wart. (thanx mom)
These aren’t leading to my eternal consecration.
Too much sitting I guess, hooked up to cybernation.
My weight reminds me of a childhood song.
Deep And Wide” is not where I belong.

I need to be a better son, a father, and a brother;
Remembering always to honor my father and my mother.
I decided it’s going to take someone with deification.
Yes, it is time; time to start a revolution!
Each year brings another brand New Year.
Will this be the year Christ is told to reappear?

I’ve come face-to-face with my limitations.
I’m seeking Him to find Him in my desperation.
I can continue to complain, to whine, and to moan,
Or spend way more time on my knees before His throne.
Hearing the Word daily and obeying what I’ve heard.
Seeing His power change all within me so absurd.

I will worship and I will praise Him in deep adoration.
For, broken are all my promises and all my resolutions.
Whether filled with abundance or blessed with scarcity,
I’ll rest in His providence and His sovereignty.
To Christ I’ll stay near, for in life and death He holds the key.
In Him I’ll place my trust and in Him alone will I believe.

Change I cannot make through the strength of this mere mortal.
Through the work of the Lord, they’ll be resolved in the gospel.
Abounding in grace then to my glorification.
Once again will I find the joy of my eternal salvation.
It’s a New Year … It’s past time for a transformation.
Time for me to start a spiritual revolution!
